The ITF and affiliates are attending the people’s climate march on 21 September in New York. The ATU (Amalgamated Transit Union) is planning a big presence at the march and is mobilising members, friends, family and their communities to attend the demonstration. Asbjørn Wahl, (Fagforbundet, Norway) chair of the ITF’s urban transport committee and chair of the ITF working group on climate change will also be attending and speaking at the march. The event is organised with Trade Unions for Energy Democracy (TUED) and will be held immediately before the UN climate summit in New York.

Ahead of the UN climate summit, the ILO and UNFCCC have released a joint statement on how they will work together more:

Transportation is seen as a critical issue for the UN climate summit and there is a new high-level advisory group on sustainable transport. The group is charged with promoting sustainable transport systems to further growth and development while protecting the environment and limiting the impact on climate change. They will be producing a progress report next year.
