Running in parallel with the UN climate change negotiations at COP17 in Durban, the ITF’s first African seminar on transport and climate change sought to discuss and advance the trade union perspective on climate change. Over 60 delegates from 11 countries in Africa plus affiliates from around the world attended the seminar as part of the ITUC’s World of Work (WoW) programme.

Education International (EI) adopted a resolution entitled Education Unions Mobilising for Climate Change at its congress held in Cape Town , South Africa July 2011.
A new ILO pubilcation on Climate Change and Labour: the need for a “Just Transition” emphasises the importance of the role of workers in discussion on the social dimensions of sustainable development and climate change policies, and the fact that until recently they have been excluded.
ITF affiliate, the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union of Uganda, attended a climate change workshop in Nairobi last week. The seminar brought together unions and civil society organisations from East Africa.
